Synopsis

The Heberden Telemedicine Foundation has submitted a grant request to the Beacon Community Cooperative Agreement Program to facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive Health Information Exchange (HIE) network in Northern California.

Phase 1: The initial goal of this program will be to develop an existing prototype Electronic Health Record (EHR) software system into a robust, low-cost solution capable of supporting any rural hospital.

Phase 2. In addition to enabling telemedicine solutions to be used more effectively and economically, the EHR can be developed further to support the creation of the Northern California HIE network. This network will provide an architecture that unites the rural hospitals, physicians, pharmacies, test labs, clinics, other HIE networks -- and members of the general public -- into a cohesive structure that will help contain healthcare costs and promote the efficient delivery of quality care.
